Dr Charash is the founder and Chairman of the Board of Doc to Dock, a non-government organization, which collects surplus medical supplies from the American medical community (doctors, hospitals, and industry) and ships them to health care providers in developing nations (throughout Africa and Haiti).
Dr Charash has helped turn medical over-production and the wastefulness of developed nations into tangible benefits for that half way around the world and affected the lives of countless of thousands in African nations.
Doc to Dock was born as the result of an appeal made by former U.S. president Bill Clinton at the first summit meeting of the Clinton Foundation’s Clinton Global Initiative in late 2005. While long committed to social causes, Dr Charash was inspired by the call to action to put his passions into practice to come up with an innovative program that ships medical supply surpluses from the U.S. to struggling hospitals in developing countries.
A leading Cardiology and Internal Medicine specialist, Dr Bruce Charash is currently an Associate Professor of Clinical Medicine at NYU Medical School, and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
Dr Charash is the author of the book Heart Myths, Viking 1991, which explained many of the common misunderstandings of heart disease to the public. Over the past 20 years Dr Charash has appeared on multiple television and radio interviews; and has delivered over 200 lectures on heart disease to the general public.
Dr Charash received the “Outstanding Physician of the Year Award” for New York State in 2008 from the Greater New York Hospital Association.
