Hugh Morgan is an Australian businessman who spent 30 years in various leadership positions with the Western Mining Corporation, including 13 years as CEO between 1990 and 2003. Morgan, the son of former WMC CEO Bill Morgan, became Australia’s youngest executive director following his father’s death in the early 1970s. Over the next 30 years, Morgan continued to build on his father’s work to expand WMC into a world-class mining business.

After leaving WMC in 2003, Morgan held various high-level positions in a number of Australian businesses, public bodies and community groups. He was twice a member of the board at the Reserve Bank of Australia, worked as the director of the Australian Stock Exchange for seven years and served two years as president of the Business Council of Australia. He is the former chairman of the International Council on Metals and the Environment, the emeritus director of the Commonwealth Business Council and chairman of BioDem Limited. He is the co-founder and chairman emeritus of Asia Society Australia, president of the Australian German Association and chairman of the Order of Australia Association Foundation. In addition to this, Morgan is also a vocal member of the Liberal Party and calls for the introduction of nuclear energy in Australia.
