Jamila Gordon is an executive who specialises in business and IT development. She has held a number of high-level positions at IBM, Qantas and Leighton Holdings since moving to Australia in 1989.
Gordon travelled to Australia from Somalia in order to improve her English and study at Bendigo’s La Trobe University. By the end of the 1990s, Gordon graduated from the university and risen through the ranks at IBM into an executive role. In this position she managed some of the world’s largest outsourcing deals in France and the Netherlands. Gordon took up work with Qantas in 2007, functioning as the airline’s chief information officer. During this period Gordon worked on a number of major software projects with Qantas which included a major overhaul of the company’s payroll, human resources and inventory management systems. In another project completed during this time, Qantas’s customer service officers were supplied with smart phones to record customer feedback and report faults.
In late 2010, Gordon began working with the multi-industry contractor Leighton Holdings, again as a chief information officer. Here she is tasked with shaping the Leighton group’s IT strategy and corporate governance while also linking their operations to streamline and improve the company’s processes.
